If you’re heating your home with electric baseboards or wall heaters, you’re probably ready for an upgrade.
In partnership with other utilities in the Pacific Northwest, Idaho Power is participating in a ductless heat pump pilot.   If you have baseboard, ceiling cable or wall heaters, you are likely using more energy than is needed to heat your home. We’re helping qualified customers upgrade to a ductless heating and cooling system that uses less electricity and provides greater comfort. Eligible homeowners will receive a $1,000 incentive check when a participating contractor installs a qualified system before December 1, 2009.

This pilot will end December 2009 or when 100 incentive applications have been received, whichever is earlier.

You may qualify for participation in the pilot if:

  • your home’s primary heat source is electric: baseboards, wall heaters, ceiling cable or electric forced air furnace,
  • you contract to install an inverter-driven ductless heat pump in the main living area of your home,
  • your home is not connected to a natural gas line,
  • you have occupied your home for at least one full year and expect to live there for two years following this pilot,
  • you have the qualifying ductless heat pump installed by a participating contractor,
  • you are willing to release your electric billing history to the pilot team for up to two years prior and two years post installation of the ductless heat pump,
  • you agree to allow Idaho Power and third parties associated with the pilot to visit your home to inspect the ductless heat pump installation,
  • you agree to participate in customer surveys as part of this pilot, and
  • your inverter-driven ductless heat pump is installed and incentive application form is submitted to the pilot team by December 1, 2009.

Steps to Participate:

  1. Select a participating contractor.  To be eligible for the incentive, you’ll need to work with a contractor on the participating contractor list.
  2. Fill out a homeowner application form.  Your contractor will provide you with this form.  Fill it out, sign it and return it to your contractor.
  3. Obtain preapproval prior to installing the equipment.  Your contractor will submit the Homeowner application form to the regional NW Ductless Heat Pump Project team on your behalf; he will be notified when it has been reviewed and preapproved.
  4. Contractor installs the equipment.
  5. Contractor submits final paperwork to the NW Ductless Heat Pump Project team for approval.
  6. NW Ductless Heat Pump Project team notifies Idaho Power when project is approved and ready for payment.
  7. Idaho Power processes incentive check and mails to customer.
